Training and Development seminars in Bunbury, Albany and Geraldton June-July 2009

As a result of successful grant applications to the Australian Government – NGCS (non-government centre support) funding was made available for Down Syndrome WA presenters to conduct a series of seminars in Bunbury, Albany, and Geraldton.

The seminars were aimed at respite/support workers, child care staff, teachers and assistants.

Professional Development for Education staff in Perth March 2009

Two very successful seminars were held in Perth in March with 72 education staff attending from DET, CEO AISWA schools.  They were dealing with students between the ages of 4 and 16 years and a broad range of experiences were brought to the discussions.

The evaluation sheets showed that teachers were impressed with the amount of information that they were given, both orally and on paper.  They also made comments about the usefulness of the presenters 'living' with down syndrome, the examples given, and the passion shown.  The literacy session, behaviour management session and practical strategies were also commented on favourably.  Suggestions were made about holding one PD in the north metro and one in the south metro areas in the future.
