Down Syndrome WA runs several groups during the year which provide invaluable networking and peer support for new families. These include:

  • New Parent morning teas around four times a year
  • Fortnightly Developmental Playgroup throughout the year
  • The Down Syndrome WA Support Network facebook group

Better Start Early Days workshops are also run from time to time for new families as needed.

New Parent Morning Teas

New parent morning teas are run by our Family Support team every term so that new families and families with young babies can connect and share experiences and information. Mums and dads are invited to come and meet other new families, in a relaxed and friendly environment. If bringing a grandparent or a close friend along would make you feel more comfortable, then please do. Our friendly support team will make you feel at home and can provide you with general information, answer your questions or put you in touch with someone in your area. DSC therapy staff are invited to attend these sessions to let you know what services are available for your new baby and to answer any development or therapy related queries that you might have.

Morning teas are run on four Fridays a year, between 10am and 12 noon, at Down Syndrome WA, Suite 3, 2 Canning Highway, South Perth (right next door to McDonalds on the corner of Berwick Street). Email: admin@dsawa.asn.au or support@dsawa.asn.au to find out more or to be put in touch with our friendly support staff.

Morning Tea Dates for 2016
Term 1 12th of February
Term 2 6th of May
Term 3 29th of July
Term 4 4th of November

 Developmental Playgroup

Our playgroup caters for babies and children aged 0-5yrs. Activities are therapy-based and tailored especially for those attending on the day. From time to time, guest speakers will present on a variety of relevant topics which are of interest to families. Playgroup is also valued as a peer support group for parents. Parents enjoy a coffee, chat, network and share information. Many long-term friendships have grown out of the playgroup environment. Siblings or other family members (e.g. grandparents) are welcome as well.
