Down Syndrome WA offers ongoing peer support, information and resources to families who have a member with Down syndrome, at all ages and stages of their development and into adulthood.
Our Support Team is available for families and extended family members who may have a simple query or who may wish to touch base with someone about a current difficulty their child is facing or a concern they may have about their son or daughter’s future. We are happy to offer support, discuss any issues with you, provide you with relevant information and resources where we can, or refer you to other services or sources of information.
As a peer support group we work to help build resilience in other families and in people with Down syndrome through sharing experiences and expectations, acknowledging challenges and offering strategies to address problems. We are respectful of individual differences and we aim to empower families to help themselves with whatever is important to them. We aim to provide balanced, researched information so that families can make informed decisions about what is best for their family member within the context of their family unit.
Our helpline and office/drop in centre are open every week day 9.30am-2.30pm and our support team is available to talk to you by phone, email or in person (by appointment) if you would like to pop in for a chat. A child-friendly area is available, we are easy to find, centrally located and close to major roads. If you email or contact us out of hours and leave a message we will get back to you.
